
CONFIDENTIALITY
I abide by the Psychotherapist Board of Aotearoa Code of Ethics (https://www.pbanz.org.nz/index.php?PsychotherapistStandards).
The content of all psychotherapy sessions are considered confidential between you and your therapist.
Written client records are secured in a locked cabinet. Your records cannot be shared with another party (or organization) without your written consent.
EXCEPTIONS DUE TO RISK:
Duty of Care and Protection:
If you disclose intent to harm yourself, or another person/s, your psychotherapist has a professional duty to report this information to legal authorities, and to ensure the safety of yourself and/or the other person/s by notifying relevant authorities and significant others.
Abuse of Children/Vulnerable Persons:
If you disclose that you are abusing, have recently abused, or have intent to abuse a child or vulnerable other, your psychotherapist is required to report this information to the relevant social agency and/or legal authorities.
Further, if you disclose that a child (or vulnerable other) is in danger of suffering abuse, your psychotherapist is required to report this information to the relevant social agency and/or legal authorities.
